As such, this week, three holiday movies topped the global and regional charts: let's take a look at what they are and ponder why they've found success among Netflix subscribers.

3. Christmas As Usual (2023)

Christmas As Usual is a film produced in Norway and released on December 6. According to the plot of this rom-com, a young Norwegian woman invites her Indian boyfriend to her family's Christmas dinner. However, plans go horribly awry, and the family feast turns into a fierce mess as Indian and Norwegian traditions collide.

2. Catering Christmas (2022)

This one is more of a Hallmark movie, but maybe that's what a lot of people need. The plot follows caterer Molly Frost, who is hired by Jean Harrison, the organizer of the biggest Christmas event, the Harrison Foundation's annual Christmas gala. Along the way, Molly falls in love with Jean's nephew, a humble photographer who doesn't want to take over his aunt's foundation.

1. Family Switch (2023)

The plot is built around the familiar body-swapping narrative, but with an interesting twist: parents switch bodies with their children, forcing each of them to personally experience their loved one's ordeals. The film stars established and rising stars Jennifer Garner, Ed Helms, Emma Myers and Brady Noon.

These Movies Occupy Global and Regional Top 10s and Top 25s

Looking back at last week, from November 27 to December 3, Family Switch, which was released last Thursday, came in second in the global top 10, behind the animated Adam Sndler’s film Leo. Catering Christmas came in fourth, ahead of David Fincher's recent hit The Killer.

As for this week, Family Switch took the top spot in the global top 25 on Monday, December 4, and is still in that position. Catering Christmas is right behind it, holding the number two spot since Tuesday. As for Christmas As Usual, which was released on December 6, it's currently in fifth place on the global top 25, but that's pretty good considering it's just starting to gain momentum. People around the world are really getting ready for Christmas!

But let's look at the regional charts as well. Family Switch is still in the Top 10 in most countries since Monday, but in the US it is behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was released on the service on December 3. Not the most Christmassy of movies, but you do you, dear Netflix subscribers!

Catering Christmas, on the other hand, despite its worldwide popularity, did not make it into the Top 10 in either the US or Canada this week, despite being a US-Canadian production. However, it's holding steady at number five in the UK, and has also held the top spots in Germany, the Netherlands and Australia for several days now. It seems that people in these countries are hungry for more traditional melodramas.

As for Christmas As Usual, it did not gain much popularity in the United States and the United Kingdom, although it held ninth place in the respective charts for two days after its release. It is noteworthy that Canada and Germany are more open to European Christmas movies, as Christmas As Usual holds a respectable third place in these countries.
