As much as we love The Vampire Diaries, we can't help but be puzzled by some parts of the story and the way they were handled.
So we've got a list of the most questionable storylines that made us squint in disbelief as we saw them unravel.
For a show that tried so hard to create a cohesive lore and properly fleshed-out characters, The Vampire Diaries has failed a few times to follow its own rules, and because of that the contrast between the properly portrayed world of vampires and the inconsistencies in the ways characters interact with it feels much more vivid than it should and puzzles us.
If it wasn't so good at establishing the basis of the lore and explaining how it works, we wouldn't be so surprised when these rules were abandoned.
If it wasn't so good at explaining the characters' motivations and their standing in this world, then we wouldn't be frowning at blatant mischaracterization in the latter seasons.
And we surely won't feel that bitter, because the show itself is good, and it offers one of the most thought-through vampire worlds in the recent media landscape, so seeing it betray itself is devastating.
