If a movie manages to achieve cult classic status and make a lot of money just a few weeks after its premiere, it has no choice but to wait for a sequel, because Hollywood producers only care about their profits and do not even think about protecting the integrity of a movie.
However, Hollywood has seen a lot of great sequels to great movies, so it's not like every sequel to a cult movie is a total flop.
That said, the same can't be said for the 10 sequels listed below, as they managed to both flop and insult the fans of the original:
