That plot twist never looked right anyway.

Throughout its long-standing run, The Big Bang Theory has been full of all possible twists and turns revealing truth about unexpected couples or striking events in the characters’ life, but only one plot line could’ve made things way worse had it been greenlit for further development by the show’s creators.

It’ll be fair to say that in earlier seasons all the uncertainty in Penny and Leonard’s relationships was probably the most annoying thing that fans couldn’t wait to see being over, yet everyone would surely opt for the will-they-won’t-they formula compared to that major plot twist with Penny’s new potential boyfriend.

The season 4 finale titled The Roommate Transmogrification almost introduced a new and pretty much shocking storyline, but, luckily, it was brought down in the following season 5.

The episode catches Raj temporarily moving into Leonard and Sheldon’s apartment since the former started dating Raj’s sister Priya and thus was spending too much time at Raj’s place.

What happened next was something that back in the day made fans desperate to see going away as season 4 ended on a big cliffhanger showing Penny and Raj sleeping naked in Penny’s bed.

The Big Bang Theory’s season 5 was quick to debunk all the doubts by making it clear that there was nothing between Penny and Raj, though Penny in fact allowed her friend to tell everyone that they had slept together.

A new potential couple alert came as bad news for most of the fans and, what’s even more striking, for The Big Bang Theory’s creators as well.

The series’s showrunner Steve Molaro once admitted that he had never liked that season ending anyway and the whole matter was tormenting him so much that he’d eventually reached out to the show’s creator Chuck Lorre suggesting that they better keep the characters’ relationships the way they had been before.

Molaro also revealed that Lorre hadn’t been really excited about the idea of removing a big plot twist, but had eventually agreed to unveil to the audience that nothing had happened between Raj and Penny.

Though Raj hasn’t been very lucky in his personal life ever since he almost had that chance with Penny, the latter soon recognized her feelings for Leonard and eventually got back together with him for good.

By the time of The Big Bang Theory’s ending, Raj ended up being completely ignored by the show’s creators that had surrounded him with happy couples, yet at least they talked him out of that idea of an arranged marriage he had in mind for a while.
