No more prequels, please.

There is no doubt that Young Sheldon was a huge success, even compared to the original The Big Bang Theory. Though skeptical at first, many viewers found themselves enjoying a slightly improved sitcom style and the chaotic relationships in the Cooper household.

However, with the news that another spinoff of The Big Bang Theory was in the works at MAX, fans began to get nervous about what exactly it might be. With so many characters on the show, it would be very easy to stick to the familiar prequel formula and continue to explore Penny's or Raj's backgrounds. But that's not what people want to see.

With all due respect to Young Sheldon's cast and production team, the big factor that helped the show gain the audience's trust was Jim Parsons' personal involvement with the show. Whether as a consultant or as a recurring voiceover narrator, his name in the credits seemed like a prepackaged seal of approval.

Today, fans are much less likely to react positively to any kind of prequel. The sequels might not get much better either. With the exception of Raj, who was clearly messed up throughout the series and didn't get anywhere near a satisfying ending, the characters' finales felt complete.

However, there is a way that could not only bring back the essence of The Big Bang Theory but also allow the actors to have more control over their own involvement in the show, getting in and out as their schedules allow. The sequel to the show could continue the legacy of the show by exploring the stories of the main character's children.

Since The Big Bang Theory ended with the announcement of Penny's pregnancy, and Howard and Bernadette have had children for a few years, it wouldn't be surprising to see these couples grow closer. Sheldon and Amy's son Leonard and his alleged sibling (or even a couple of siblings) mentioned in Young Sheldon would certainly make great characters as well.

Chances are, this is exactly the setup that the production team behind the new The Big Bang Theory will be exploring. Keep an eye out for important news and behind-the-scenes updates on this project!
