It’s not too late to join the celebrations still.

Every soap opera fan knows the importance of celebrating the milestones of their favorite shows. While the genre has seen a steady decline in viewership since the early 2010s, there are still some major players around. And as far as anyone can tell, they have no plans of going anywhere.

This year marks the huge half-century milestone for CBS' The Young and the Restless. Since its debut in 1973, the daytime drama has captivated viewers with the believable stories of two core families: the wealthy Brooks family and the working-class Foster family.

Over time, the story has expanded, but the way viewers relate to the characters has remained the same. That is why it is always so much fun and important for long-time viewers to see their favorites return to Genoa City and weigh in on the ongoing drama.

One of the characters who was on the verge of returning this year is Paul Williams. Portrayed by Doug Davidson, who until 2020 was the longest-running actor on the show since 1978, he will be leaving the show in November 2020. Seeing him in three years would be a total delight for all The Young and the Restless fans, but it wasn't meant to be.

If you want to blame someone, Doug Davidson has the perfect candidate. In an interview with SoapHub, he shared his perspective on the negotiations that were held with him regarding his comeback.

“I had several Zoom meetings with Danielle [Unger, director of current at CBS]. She was delightful, engaging, forthcoming, honest — everything you’d want to see. <...> I contacted my lawyer. He contacted Sony, and it was like they had no clue about [my talks with Griffith and Unger]. I felt there was a total disregard to my legal representation. My answer was, ‘No, thanks,'” he said.

Apparently, the soap’s executives didn’t exactly connect with Sony upon inviting the cast member back. Though the network was likely to agree on this addition, there was no solid base on working conditions, including the length of Davidson’s appearance, and the payment he’d receive.

Though the conclusion is disappointing for the majority of The Young and the Restless fans, we’re sure the soap still got a lot in store for the grand celebration. Make sure to tune in Monday through Friday to CBS to not miss a single surprise!
