What news may this return bring?

50 years on the air is a big anniversary, especially after the collapse of daytime soap operas in the 2010s. The Young and the Restless is one of four soaps still proudly standing on the air of a major television network, CBS, and judging by the scale of production, it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

If anything, the series continues to prove itself as a great caterer to the needs of the audience by bringing back the absolute fan-favorite characters to celebrate the big date. One of those characters, already confirmed to hit screens in late September, is Mamie, portrayed by The Young and the Restless veteran Veronica Redd.

What fans are hoping for now is to see Mamie in full action, and not just as a happy face for a few episodes.

Redd's character stood out because she represented a generation of Black people who broke their silence and abandoned the racist idea of standing on the very same level as their White bosses.

Fans of all ages still remember Mamie as a character who did a lot to change the image of a Black female character on daytime television from an obedient servant to someone who carries a lot of weight in a story. That’s why her comeback for the 50th-anniversary celebration was extremely important to happen.

Now that Mamie is set to return to Genoa City, fans have already started coming up with ideas for how she might interfere with one of the ongoing storylines. The vague description of returning to reconnect with her family is short on details, but viewers are certainly hoping for something juicy.

As a virtual mother figure to Jack, Ashley, and Traci in the absence of their real mother, Dina, Mamie may have a lot to say about the ongoing drama surrounding the Abbott family. The only hope fans have is that Redd's appearance will last long enough for her character to actually impact the story in some way.

To see how Mamie’s return will play out, make sure to tune in to CBS for new The Young and the Restless episodes starting Tuesday, September 26.
