The Witcher Season 3 Drastically Changes Jaskier, Making Fans Even More Furious
Rumors are confirmed.
The creators of the Netflix series The Witcher continue to change the original script of Andrzej Sapkowski's books, despite the complaints of many fans.
Showrunner Lauren Hissrich has previously explained that the writers have to capture the spirit of the novel and that a complete copy is not possible because the characters on screen can't have long dialogues like in the original text.
However, the new change, which shocked many and caused a new wave of discontent, does not concern long dialogues or what would be difficult to transfer to the screen. It turned out that in the third season Jaskier will be bisexual.
In the new season the bard will start a love relationship with Prince Radovid. There were already rumors, as in 2021 an audition tape appeared, where Radovid flirts with Jaskier.
The scene ended up in the final draft of the script. There will be several romantic episodes with the bard and the prince, and in the end the characters will kiss.
It was indirectly confirmed by showrunner Lauren Hissrich:
"Jaskier falls in love. And it's with a character who fans will know [and] continues showing up in the books. So what happens this season between them will have ripple effects for a very long time."
Actor Joey Batey, who plays the bard, also commented on this storyline:
"Jaskier is having his hot girl summer. It's been really rewarding to see [his love life] told in a very visual way. […] Hopefully we've created something that is special, a sapioromantic and sapiosexual [connection] that is as flawed as any other relationship in this show."
The series' Radovid is significantly older than the book prototype: the prince played by Hugh Skinner is not the son, but the younger brother of the Redanian ruler Vizimir.
According to the plot of the books, Radovid became the king of Redania. During the reign, he was the main opponent of Nilfgaard on the Continent and managed to effectively repel the enemy.
However, as a result of his ambiguous domestic policies, he created a large repressive apparatus and unleashed a bloody witch hunt.
Many fans do not understand why it was necessary to change part of the plot in such a way, especially considering previous dissatisfaction with the series' creators for straying too far from the original source.
We will see how the relationship between Radovid and Jaskier will develop very soon – the third season of The Witcher will be released on June 29.
