The Winchesters' Big Bad Might Not Be What You Think
Will at least something in this show turn out to be exactly what fans expected? You'll never know until you watch.
With the Winchesters getting close to the mid-season finale, things could use some clarity. However, it seems that the big villain of the season has already been established... or so we think.
John and Mary Winchester embark on a mission to try and save Earth from the Akrida — a malevolent force out of this world that has been trying to invade for many years, only to be stopped by Men of Letters.
However, now that they are gone, it might be up to the Winchesters' future parents to prevent a catastrophe. According to Dean Winchester, the series' narrator, the Akrida poses a threat to all existence — not just people but also demons and monsters.

Looks intimidating enough? Well, some fans are simply not ready to buy it.
According to the fandom's analysts, the Akrida might be fleeing from an even bigger threat, and there is something way more dangerous to be revealed in the end of the season.
"I suspect the Akrida are beings from another universe that fled the s15 destruction of the multiverse by escaping into the show's prime universe, but with the twist that they also entered the past to avoid Chuck's notice," Redditor Cunning-Folk77 suggested.
Besides, other fans noticed that the monsters showcased so far are rare and "seem to be tied to the core characters". All in all, everything goes too smooth to be true, say fans who are used to big surprises in the original show.

As of now, the direction the show is going remains vague and unclear. It is still unknown whether the show retcons the story of John and Mary Winchester, and where in the Supernatural timeline it even takes place given that Dean Winchester seems to be alive.
The first season is set to consist of 13 episodes, with The CW stopping short of ordering an extended season. The future of the Supernatural prequel currently remains unclear.
