The Walking Dead Trip: 5 Real-Life Filming Locations You Can Visit
What’s the real name of the town where Woodbury was filmed?
It’s safe to assume that most of The Walking Dead fans would be totally up for a trip across the show’s most iconic places. Maybe you wanted to wander the streets where Rick Grimes stumbled upon walkers for the first time or revisit the places where our hearts were broken?
Well, you're in for a post-apocalyptic ride.
Atlanta Mission, Administrative Offices — GA, United States
We will start our trip right where The Walking Dead began— in the hospital, the place where a confused and disoriented Rick wakes up from his coma. You can’t possibly forget the exterior of this hospital with a courtyard filled with bodies and the parking lot with deserted helicopters and military vehicles.
It's actually not a hospital. It's the administrative offices for Atlanta Mission, a non-profit helping the homeless.
Westside Reservoir Park — GA, United States
Westside Reservoir Park is the very place where the group’s first camp was and where Rick reunites with Lori and Carl. Why not set up a little picnic, sans the walkers, of course?
Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center — GA, United States
You might've thought the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from the show was the real-life CDC deal, but the exterior was actually the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta.
Only the movie Contagion has ever been given the green light to film the actual CDC's exterior.
ESCO Feed Mill — GA, United States
Every true Walking Dead fan will instantly recognize this place. The ESCO Feed Mill, with its weathered look, appears in the show's season 3. That’s the very place where the Governor kills Merle and Daryl later finds him turned walker. It was one of the show’s most emotional scenes ever.
Senoia — GA, United States
Senoia, the lovely little town in Georgia, played a massive role in the series. Most of Woodbury's drama unfolds here. From Carl's iconic chocolate pudding eating to the Governor’s shady dealings, this town has seen it all. That is a great place to stop by on your trip.
