These deaths hit everyone hard, and nobody was left unaffected.

While we eagerly anticipate the upcoming spinoffs of the TWD universe, where some characters are surely going to die, let's take a moment to remember those deaths from the original show that left a lasting mark on us.

5. Beth Greene

In the chaos of their escape from the hospital in the 8th episode of season 5, a sudden gunshot ended Beth's life, leaving everyone stunned and broken.

As the group gathered around her lifeless body, tears flowed freely, and a somber silence engulfed them. Beth's bravery and kindness will be forever remembered by fans.

4. Dale Horvath

Dale Horvath's death on The Walking Dead was straight-up heartbreaking. That old man had been with the group since the beginning, serving as its moral compass.

Dale was bitten by a walker while he was patrolling the area around the farm in the 11th episode of season 3. Viewers agree that Dale definitely deserved better. He was the voice of reason, the wise man who held the group together.

3. Hershel Greene

The Governor absolutely messed with our feelings throughout seasons 3 and 4. In the beginning of season 4, he even managed to feel a little sympathetic towards him.

But what he did in the mid-season finale completely made it clear that this guy is nuts, and there is no excuse for his actions. He casually used Michonne's sword to chop off Hershel's head right in front of his own daughters and the rest of the group.

Hershel wasn't just a farmer or a doctor. He was a valuable part of the group, whose opinion Rick always took into account.

2. Carl Grimes

While Rick Grimes undeniably served as the primary protagonist of The Walking Dead during the show's first nine seasons, his son Carl played a vital and influential role throughout the series.

However, his death was the least expected and the worst for such an important character, as he fell victim to a walker's bite. It absolutely disappointed fans, and many of them dropped the show.

1. Glenn Rhee

Before Carl’s death, many people dropped the show after this outrageous and heartbreaking death.

In the comics, Glenn also meets his fate at the hands of Negan and his bat. Fans were crossing their fingers, hoping that the show would spare him because he was such a beloved character.

But, alas, he did end up dying in the most heart-wrenching manner possible.
