Apparently, it was the right decision to conclude the show.

The Walking Dead, the long-living post-apocalyptic zombie series that had been airing for over a decade, concluded almost a year ago on its eleventh season.

A recent revelation by Lauren Cohan, who portrayed one of the OG characters of the show, Maggie Greene, has shed light on the show's original plans.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Cohan shared that the showrunners had initially intended for The Walking Dead to continue for four more years.

According to Cohan, when she got back for season 10, Scott Gimple, the showrunner of The Walking Dead, approached Cohan about her interest in continuing the show.

The initial plan was for her to make a comeback and join forces with the talented Jeff Dean Morgan, who portrays Negan.

This duo would then assume leadership roles in the series, as such prominent cast members as Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira had already departed the show, and Norman Reedus planned to do so as well.

While the original plan sounded promising, the showrunners eventually went in a different direction with Dead City.

Cohan says the concept of a spinoff show relocating Maggie and Negan to an entirely new location, bringing forth a new narrative arc sounded exciting to her.

While we may have lost many good storylines that could have been introduced in new seasons of The Walking Dead, it was probably the right decision.

The premiere episode of Dead City promises a breath of fresh air for the long-running series, also allowing the characters to explore unexplored territory and face new challenges.

As Cohan pointed out, the spinoff also presented the opportunity for a time jump. It enables the story to leap forward into uncharted territories.

Dead City leaves fans wondering what had happened between the shows, and this intriguing mystery keeps the show going.

Other beloved survivors will soon have their own spinoffs. TWD: Rick & Michonne is scheduled to premiere in 2024, and TWD: Daryl Dixon is expected anytime in 2023.

The Walking Dead: Dead City episode 2 is scheduled for this Sunday, June 25, on AMC.
