The Very Reason Why Sam Winchester Is So Relatable Makes No Sense at All
We can all have a laugh about this one.
Although there are many truly frightening things that surround us in our daily lives, we usually know how to distract ourselves and don't let them affect our quality of life and productivity. However, some of the fears that seem completely irrational can actually be quite powerful and end up requiring some professional help.
We're sure Supernatural 's Sam Winchester, for example, could use some therapeutic techniques to overcome his fear of clowns. Although it was treated as a running joke throughout the seasons of the show, the fear never really made sense to the viewers at home.
After seeing so much, literally dying and coming back to life, being subjected to pain and torture, Sam Winchester still suffers from a fear that has no real basis. Being forced to fight creatures of all kinds that seem to come straight out of other people's nightmares doesn't help either.
If anything, his lifestyle may have exacerbated the anxiety. Our psyche is very strong and can adapt to almost any circumstances in life, but there's only so much change the brain can take before it breaks down.
Although this fear makes no sense on the surface, it actually makes Sam much more grounded and relatable from the audience's point of view. Instead of a tough guy who spends his time traveling and fighting demons, Sam is presented as a more gentle soul with very realistic flaws.
Even a simple Reddit discussion started by user FantasticBlood0 on r/Supernatural led to fans sharing the strangest fears of their own, showing how truly different and interesting all people are, and how even a small detail like this can make many viewers relate to the character in unexpected ways.
If you're feeling nostalgic and want to have a Supernatural marathon this weekend, you can stream all 15 seasons of the beloved show on Netflix.
