“I was feeling epic.”

The Vampire Diaries begins as a story about a high school girl who becomes the object of the advances of two vampire brothers.

However, the series quickly expands beyond this simple love triangle to become an epic supernatural soap opera with many characters and unexpected plot twists.

Fans loved The Vampire Diaries for its well-written characters, who had plenty of time to show all sides of themselves over the course of eight seasons. However, most fans say their favorite character is not Elena, Bonnie, or Stefan, but a character who was undeservedly given little screen time and killed off in the first season.

“Lexi was fantastic and I think it was a total waste to kill her off so quickly. I'm sure they didn't realize what a gem they had with the actress until it was too late,” Reddit user anonykitten29 wrote.

Lexi Charmed The Fans The Moment She Appeared On-Screen

The most memorable character from Season 1 undoubtedly was Alexia Branson, better known as Lexi. Fans were so captivated by Stefan's longtime friend that they are still not ready to come to terms with her terrible death.

In Episode 8 of Season 1, Lexi came to Mystic Falls for Stefan’s birthday. However, that night, in an attempt to cover up the murder, Damon told the sheriff who Lexi was, which led to her being killed with an aspen stake in front of Stefan.

Lexi And Stefan Had The Most Touching Friendship

What made this death even more heartbreaking was the touching bond that Stefan and Lexi had formed over their decades-long friendship.

After surviving the loss of her parents without shutting down her emotions, Lexi met Stefan, who was himself a newly turned vampire doing terrible things because he could not control his blood thirst.

It was Lexi who taught Stefan how to control himself, explaining that vampires feel everything much more intensely, that all their feelings and emotions are heightened to the limit. She kept pulling him out of his thirst addiction, and the duet of Stefan and Lexi became this breath of fresh air – there was only friendship between them, without a hint of romance.

Lexi’s Death Proved No Character Was Safe

But as horrible as Lexi's death was, it was the catalyst for everything that happened in The Vampire Diaries universe. Since that fateful night, fans have realized that none of their favorite characters are safe, and by the end of the saga, the show's creators proved it more than once.
