There’s nothing impossible for him.

Summary:

  • The Vampire Diaries was The CW's mystical teen drama that ran from 2009 to 2017.
  • Most of the characters on the show are not good examples when it comes to dealing with their emotions.
  • Klaus Mikaelson, however, wins the title of most traumatized by faking his way through therapy.

Even though we've all been guilty of watching too much TV as teenagers and trying to build our entire identity around one iconic character or another, looking back at those shows can be a very painful experience. Mostly, the characters we used to love just seem annoying.

However, some of them turn out to be even more screwed up than we remember. The Vampire Diaries' fan-favorite antagonist Klaus Mikaelson is one of them. Though he and Damon would both make a talented therapist, one of them has already tried it and used it to his advantage.

One of the most overlooked romances on the show may actually be the most messed up and entertaining in concept when you look back on it.

There is no shame in loving bad-boy type characters, as long as those affections remain entirely fictional. Even though Klaus has shown a lot of violence and cruelty during his run on both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, Joseph Morgan's charisma has made him almost as popular as Ian Somerholder's Damon Salvatotre.

Two of the most popular Klaus pairings have been Caroline Forbes and Camille O'Connell. And while the first love story won the hearts of the audience almost immediately, even though everything happened very suddenly, the second was much more entertaining in its concept.

While some might argue that the psychology student Cami was not an interesting character in her own right and was only created to be some sort of beacon of light for Klaus, perhaps that was exactly what he needed. With a history of trauma as long as his, he was looking for understanding more than anything else, and he found it in Cami.

What is both ironic and tragic about Klaus is that half the fandom claims he should have ended up in a relationship with therapy, and the other half reminds them that he tried, and it led him to an even deeper wound. Even though he cheated on therapy by eventually romancing his therapist, it did him no good.

The only thing that Cami and Klaus' relationship has brought is a lot of entertainment mixed with tears for the viewers.

And maybe a warning to all those who still wonder what would have happened to their favorite villains if they'd started working on their mental health. Sometimes the answer isn't as good as you want to believe.

If you're feeling nostalgic and want to watch Klaus' journey to becoming a better version of himself again, you can stream The Originals on the Freevee app.
