We’re sorry, Sheldon, but we totally get her.

Although The Big Bang Theory ended more than four years ago, fandom continues to find out interesting details and unexpected behind-the-scenes secrets from the cast and crew to this day. With this number of characters with such depth, some of whom are continuously being explored through the spinoff, Young Sheldon, as well, there are no chances that content will ever stop.

While we know significantly more about leading characters, such as Sheldon Cooper himself, as he’s been the focus of the original show from the very beginning, plus the story of his childhood was set to become a separate show, some of the secondary characters miss some key information about them.

Amy Farrah Fowler, the woman that Sheldon meets on the dating website, and ends up falling in love with and marrying years later, for example, was always more of a dark horse.

While we saw the character develop, got a few glimpses into her background from meeting her parents, and have something to build our impression of her on, fans still feel they could use more information about her. Luckily, the series’ creators Bill Prady and Chuck Lorre are always happy to give some more.

As both showrunners agreed in a joint interview with EW, Amy and Sheldon’s relationship wouldn’t ever happen if it wasn’t for Penny. Although Amy learns to communicate with Sheldon in a unique way that makes sense for their relationship, she doesn’t fall in love with him right away. However, with Penny, she totally does:

“Originally, Amy's first love was Penny. She wanted girlfriends and a social life with other women because she was denied that as a child. That was the first breakthrough with her character. It wasn't with Sheldon, it was with the girls,” Lorre explained.

Sheldon ended up not being the main focus of somebody’s concern and got to make the decision himself: whether he wanted to join in the fun the person he liked was having, or he didn't. The rest is history, that will forever be saved in the number of hilarious episodes.

If you want to freshen up your memory of Amy’s journey as The Big Bang Theory character, or the journey that Shamy took together to become a couple, you can go ahead and rewatch the series on Netflix or MAX.
