The Try Guys' Ned Fulmer Drama, Explained
The scandal is nowhere near an end.
In case you are struggling to navigate yourself in the wave of distressed tweets about The Try Guys and its sacked manager Ned Fulmer, then we are here for you.
On Monday, the three fourths of The Try Guys — Eugene Lee Yang, Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfield — issued a video statement, explaining why they had to fire their longtime colleague and manager Ned Fulmer. According to them, his behavior has sparked an internal review in the media company, as Fulmer engaged in what he described as "consensual workplace relationship".
Eugene, Keith and Zach revealed that Ned confirmed the allegations that surfaced earlier after "multiple fans alerted them" that on Labor Day weekend, Ned was spotted with a fellow employee engaging in "public romantic behavior". The three added that Fulmer confirmed this was continuing for some time.
The trio noted that "there will be things that we want to say or go into further" but there are "some legal issues we have to consider as we go through everything." They added they were "shocked" and "deeply hurt" by what has happened.
The fact that Fulmer, who was an important part of The Try Guys, is now exiting the project due to an infidelity scandal, is dramatic for fans mainly due to how Ned was commonly identified as "the wife guy". Many people are now blasting Fulmer over making a career off of loving his wife and then cheating on her.
"I'll write a more serious thread later but what gets me that Ned Fulmer not only cheat on his wife being the Wife Guy of the group, but did it PUBLIC. Like what you think was going to happen being a popular Internet personality? Like have some shame." – @ghostapple_ari
Fulmer himself issued a statement earlier in September when the allegations first surfaced, saying that "family should have always been my priority, but I lost focus and had a consensual workplace relationship", apologizing for "any pain that my actions may have caused to the guys and the fans but most of all to Ariel."
The couple share two kids, but Ariel Fulmer also frequently collaborated with her husband in the videos, with many fans being fond of their seemingly ideal relationship. In a separate statement, she thanked everyone who reached out to support her, saying that "nothing is more important to me and Ned than our family, and all we request right now is that you respect our privacy for the sake of our kids".
Now, with The Try Guys fans still going ballistic on social media, Fulmer is officially no longer a part of the team. Eugene, Keith and Zach said in their video statement that there is a lot of unreleased content that included Ned, but these videos will not be posted.
The Try Guys also changed their logo — instead of signature four quadrants with cartoonish avatars of the four members, it is now a triceratops with an orange background.
The project started off on Buzzfeed as the four members tried different experimental things that were new to them. In 2018, they left Buzzfeed to forge their own production, with their YouTube channel currently boasting 7,9 million subscribers.
