After all, you wouldn't spend 6 seasons watching flawless characters.

When Young Sheldon debuted, audiences had no idea how much the show would deepen the backstory they thought they already knew.

With each new episode and the consistent storytelling of the characters, it became clear that relying on the original was no longer worth it.

Young Sheldon created a dynamic all its own, with a place for each character's fans.

Of course, the most notable change came with the character of George Cooper. Back in the TBBT days, all we knew about him was his neglect of his own children and his alcoholism.

However, many years later, everyone got to know his much sweeter side. Even the show's executive producer, Steve Molaro, had to admit that he regretted not giving George more thought in the beginning.

On the contrary, Sheldon's mother figure turned out to be a disappointment for the fans.

Despite Mary's best efforts to raise her children, work around the house, keep her marriage alive, and stay true to herself, fans still find her to be the worse parent of the two.

But the most fascinating thing is... this broken family dynamic that fans always complain about may be the glue that holds the whole show together.

"I find this family so wonderfully flawed, real, and loving. Even many of their mistakes aren't mistakes, because oftentimes there just aren't good options, only less bad ones, and you just have to guess. Because it's new territory for everyone. But their love is there, and that's the important part," Redditor MerryBandOfPirates said.

Fortunately for viewers, there is no shortage of dramatic changes in store for Cooper's young Sheldon.

As the show approaches its big two-part Season 6 finale, fans are eager to see what it will bring.

Tune in to CBS on Thursday or stream the show live or on demand with Paramount Plus.
