The Summer I Turned Pretty Stars Defend Belly's Choice: "It Made Sense For Her"

It wouldn't be a true coming-of-age drama without a love triangle.

Luckily, when that triangle is based on the show, there are plenty of opportunities to explore all the relationships between all the characters and make a very thoughtful decision about who to support.

Ever since Twilight 's Bella Swan had to make a tough choice between Edward and Jacob, fandoms have learned to divide into teams.

For The Summer I Turned Pretty viewers, that was Team Jeremiah and Team Conrad. Belly (not to be confused with Bella) made her choice in the season finale, and it's safe to say not everyone was happy.

Lola Tung, who plays Belly on the show, has her own thoughts about her character's choice. If the fanbase doesn't really get it, she's prepared to stand up for her decision. The actress shared her thoughts in a brief interview for TVLine alongside co-star Sean Kaufman, who plays Steven:

“You know, I think that her choice made sense for her in the moment. She’s been through a lot with both of them, and I think she’s realized that at that time Conrad has not shown her that he will ever be willing to fight for that relationship, as much as she will. And then there’s Jeremiah, ready to fight for her,” she explained.

While it may feel like it's all over for Conrad and Belly and that the ship has already sailed, don't be so quick to give up. The show has been renewed for a third season, so there are plenty of opportunities for more drama between these characters.

Plus, it would be no less interesting to see how the brothers deal with the heat that Belly's decision to stay with Jeremiah will inevitably create.
