It's been 16 years since the last episode of iconic show The Sopranos aired. But it still makes almost every fan wonder what the heck that was…

Without doubt, The Sopranos saga is one of those shows that have an impact on the whole generation. People all over the world grew fond of both sweet and terrifying mob boss Tony Soprano.

Women sympathized with his wife, men were jealous of the power and money he possessed.

Despite the fact that the series is about the Italian mafia, the Soprano family itself proved to be in some way just like any other regular American family, with its ups and downs.

Over the course of the show, the writers gave us a lot of actions, thoughts, and of course several unexpected… plot twists (that sounds way better than unpredicted murders, right?).

But what really made the fans freak out was the ending of the series. Hardly anyone will argue that The Sopranos has one of the biggest finales in the history of television.

But after so many years, people still argue whether it was brilliant or just horrible. And it seems like this dispute was planned by the creative team after all.

Longtime series writer and producer Terence Winter admitted during The Rich Eisen Show that "it was very much designed to throw viewers off." And that mission was definitely completed.

"I hated it when I saw it live because it wasn't clear enough to me. When it ended I didn't realize all of the foreshadowing of what happened. It just ended and I was confused.

In time, I realized it was brilliant, and that he almost certainly was killed at that diner.

People can debate all they want about what happened but to say it wasn't a great ending is nonsense. Here we are still debating it years later," Reddit user mcogneto said.

The argument about if Tony was killed or not in the finale is also a part of a big dispute. Some fans are sure that it's not the way the series would end for the main character, even despite the fact that he is a dangerous mobster.

But others are sure, there is no other way the show could go.

"This show couldn't possibly have had a happy ending. Tony is rotten to the core, this was established fairly early on. The nihilist undercurrents run deep.

We've seen Tony overcome obstacle after obstacle, taking out all his antagonists. how could they just end the series with Tony beating another villain and having dinner with his family?

We've seen this before, the only real closure you can get in a series like the Sopranos is the protagonist's death, and I think they pulled it off perfectly," Reddit user thegreatwhitemenace said.

Of course there is always a third group of people. In this case it's the one that thought their TV just blinked and went to black screen. We guess, if you don't feel like overanalyzing things, join the club.
