The Sopranos was a revolutionary show and an instant hit. But even great TV shows have a few plot holes and things that don't quite make sense.

Here are 10 Sopranos plot holes that fans still question:

1. Characters who were always there even though they weren't

With so many main characters being whacked or otherwise disposed of, a stream of new faces was always required. But some key characters appeared as if they had always been around even though they hadn't; Burt Gervasi in season 8, Bobby Bacala appearing for the first time in season 2 despite being a key member of Junior's crew – and Ralph who suddenly showed up in season 3.

2. Furio comes and goes

In season 2, Tony randomly travelled to Italy and Furio was introduced. The Italian clearly had a thing for Carmella and eventually returned home never to be seen again. The whole Furio 'affair' was a great storyline, but there could have been far more to it.

3. New York and New Jersey

The show was described as the closest thing to the real world of mobsters – but New Jersey simply isn't in the same league as New York in real life.

4. AJs girlfriend

AJ had a long-term relationship with Devin throughout season 4 and into season 5. Then she just disappeared and was never mentioned again. That storyline seemed to be going somewhere so this seemed a little odd.

5. Christopher's dad

Sometimes Christopher remembered his dad, sometimes his dad died when he was just a baby.

6. Silvio and Artie Bucco

Both Silvio and Artie had grown up with Tony. The Sopranos crew regularly eat at Artie's restaurant. And yet, in the pilot, Silvio doesn't know who Artie is.

7. Did Tony sell his mother's house?

A major plotline in season 1 is Tony's relationship with his mother. When she moves into a retirement home, he sells her house. But in season 2, it's still on the market. House sales fall through all the time but this was never addressed.

8. Pussy returns

At the end of season 1, Pussy disappeared amid fears he may have been flipped. On his return, he's welcomed back with no questions asked. Ultimately, it turns out he was an FBI informant. But why did the FBI put him back in if he'd been compromised? And why was Tony so naïve?

9. Adriana turns informant

This was a bit too quick. Adriana became besties with an agent in the time it took to pour a coffee. And the FBI had no real leverage.

10. Christopher's movie

While he may have been a bit of a loose cannon, Christopher would have been prevented from releasing his movie by any boss – particularly one as paranoid as Tony Soprano.
