But there is no Hannibal Lecter-level charisma.

Back in 1991, the world saw The Silence of the Lambs that followed an FBI trainee who seeks advice from an imprisoned cannibalistic maniac in an attempt to catch another serial killer. The glowing success of this thriller brought us a number of its pale copies.

These include a 1997 controversial movie that seemingly had it all to become a new hit, but eventually failed to do it. However, nowadays it is getting more viewership, as it has just entered Netflix ’s global top all of a sudden, taking the sixth place in it.

The plot of this psychological thriller revolves around Alex, a forensic psychologist whose niece goes missing one day. After consulting with his fellow detectives, he realizes that she could have fallen victim to an insane killer known as Casanova.

The maniac is notorious for kidnapping women and forcing them to submit to his demands, but one of his victims, Kate, manages to escape. She teams up with Alex, and they embark on a risky journey to try to catch the deranged Casanova.

This premise seems to be really captivating, as it sets out to explore post-traumatic stress disorder, serial killers and detective investigations.

Besides, it truly appears to be cut from the same cloth as The Silence of the Lambs, but the piece of material used for the 1997 film appears to be of poorer quality.

This thriller lacks well-written plot development, memorable dialogues and the very mystery in what is supposed to be a mystery, as the twists are quite predictable here.

However, despite the shameful critical score of 34% on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience seems to have more fun with it. The movie is stylishly directed, the visuals are really dark and atmospheric, while the leading performances are extremely convincing.

Just like The Silence of the Lambs, this flick stars two leads that are the main key to its spectacularity. Here we have the star of 90s movies, Morgan Freeman, as Alex and Ashley Judd as Kate, and their onscreen chemistry makes a must-watch of this thriller.

Titled Kiss the Girls, it’ll be of much interest for those who enjoy classic thrillers of the 1990s, like Brad Pitt’s Se7en (1995) and Denzel Washington’s The Bone Collector (1999).

Check out how Morgan Freeman saves them all one more time, as this thriller is available for watching on Netflix.
