The Rock vs. Ryan Reynolds Feud Rumors Has Fans Fearing for Red Notice 2
The two stars had a “huge fight” on the set of their joint movie. What happened between The Rock and Ryan Reynolds and what does it mean for its sequel?
Admittedly, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson isn’t the easiest person to work with: several reports suggest that he and Ryan Reynolds got into an on-set fight during the filming of Red Notice and had problems working together. But nothing is what it seems with all the speculations and drama, so we decided to learn more about this conflict, its origins, and its implication — specifically, for Red Notice 2.
What Happened Between Reynolds and The Rock?
In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, Dwayne Johnsons, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot were filming Red Notice. The COVID-related restrictions understandably made the principal photography hard already, but The Rock added fuel to the flame of everyone’s frustration: reportedly, he was consistently hours late to the set.
According to The Wrap, one time, Johnson arrived 5 hours late — and Ryan Reynolds stood up to him, demanding the former respect everyone’s schedule. There was a “huge fight” between the two actors, and The Rock stormed off the set in anger; he and Reynolds then refused to speak to each other for a long time.
Well, that was the initial report, anyway. The updates suggested that the entire situation was greatly exaggerated, and there wasn’t anything this serious there.
Despite the Rumors, No Feud Threatens Red Notice 2
Red Notice was ambiguously received: while critics only gave it a 37% Tomatometer Score on RT, the viewers seemingly loved watching it in theaters, bringing it a solid 92% Verified Audience Score. On IMDb, the spy action comedy is doing reasonably well with a 6.3/10 score, and fans have long been waiting for Red Notice 2.
The Rock vs. Ryan Reynolds feud reports had fans fearing for the sequel, but we can all relax. According to TMZ’s sources, the on-set drama was greatly exaggerated in other reports, and Reynolds and Johnson resolved their conflict professionally, resulting in the latter arriving to the set on time the next day. All’s well between them.
This update, combined with Gal Gadot’s revelation about the Red Notice 2 script being ready almost a year ago, means that there’s nothing standing between us and the much-anticipated sequel. We’re more than likely to see the great chemistry between the three lead stars once again — especially, if The Rock can carve up the time in his schedule and arrive at the set on time this time.
Just kidding.
