We've had a lot of couples on The Office, but while some of them have left us with bitter or sweet feelings, Erin and Andy just disappeared at some point with no clear explanation.

The relationship between these two on the series is one that leaves many fans scratching their heads.

For several seasons, the showrunners built up the romance, only to quickly dismantle it in just a few episodes.

So what was the reason for this sudden shift? One theory is that the writers wanted to create drama by breaking up Erin and Andy.

The Office is known for its cringe-worthy moments and awkward situations, and a split between two beloved characters would definitely fit the bill.

Plus, it gave the creators a chance to introduce new love interests for both Erin and Andy, leading to even more comedic moments.

Of course, there's always the possibility that the writers simply ran out of ideas for the couple.

The initial attraction between the humble secretary and the flamboyant salesman was based on their shared love of singing and their quirky personalities.

But once they started dating, there wasn't much else to explore in their relationship.

They didn't have the same level of chemistry as other couples on the show, like Jim and Pam or Dwight and Angela.

But an absolute majority of fans agree that the main reason for the couple's split was Hangover Part III — Todd Phillips' hit comedy project starring Ed Helms as a dentist.

During this time, the writers had to come up with a way to temporarily write Helms' character out of the show. Breaking up with Erin and giving him less screen time seemed like a good option.

It's clear that Erin and Andy's relationship was never meant to last, although fans were a bit upset with such a decision.

While some viewers may have been disappointed by their abrupt breakup, it ultimately allowed for more interesting storylines and character development on the show.
