If you're a fan of Chicago Fire who became frustrated with the whole Brettsey storyline that seemed to drag on for years – you're in good company.

David Eigenberg, who plays Senior Firefighter Christopher Herrmann, was just as annoyed with their long-term failure to bite the bullet and just get together.

Ok, so up until the end of season 6, Casey (Jesse Spencer) was (on and off) trying to reignite the embers of his marriage.

But once that spark was well and truly out, it seemed obvious he and Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer were going to get together.

And while it might have been a bit much to have them get together almost immediately, three seasons seemed a long time to wait.

Especially as it was pretty obvious to fans where that particular storyline was headed.

When they did get together, they tried to keep it a secret. Not that their efforts were particularly successful as most of their crewmates worked out what was going on pretty quickly.

And then, after all the waiting – and the inevitable eventually happening – Spencer left! So, the relationship became a long-distance affair. And like so many, it then became a former relationship.

Or so we thought.

Season 11 saw Sylvie tell Casey that there might be a way back for their relationship. What?! Come on, writers – surely, it's either on or it's off!

And what does David Eigenberg think of this newfound possibility of the love birds getting back together?

In a 2021 interview with Meg, he said, "Some people in life can't pull the trigger, so to speak, in an amicable, loving way". Not him though, he described himself as a "jump-in guy" and said he knew he was going to marry his wife Chrysti from the moment he met her.

Compare that with Jesse Spencer's real love life and you discover the Australian-born US citizen is about as indecisive as the character he plays.

From 2008 to 2010 he dated British singer and actress Louise Griffiths. And from 2010 until 2013 he was in a relationship with Maya Gabeira, the big wave surfer from Brazil.

But he wouldn't find true love until 2014 when he began dating Kali Woodruff, a neuroscientist from Chicago, Illinois.

After 5 years together, the couple were engaged in 2019 and married in June 2020 despite lockdown restrictions.

Not quite as straightforward as David Eisenberg's relationship – but they got there in the end.
