The Real Reason Why Stiles Isn't in Teen Wolf Movie
With just a few days left until the premiere, some Teen Wolf fans are still coming to terms that one of the fan-favorite characters won't be in the movie.
Dylan O'Brien, the beloved actor known for his role as Stiles on the hit MTV series Teen Wolf, has repeatedly stated that he will not be returning for the upcoming Teen Wolf movie set to be released on Paramount Plus on January 26.
In an interview with Variety, O'Brien opened up about his decision to left Stiles in the past and the thought process behind it.
"It was a difficult decision. A lot went into it," O'Brien said. "The show couldn't be more dear to me. It was the first thing I ever did I and so many people there are extremely dear to me. It was something I was trying to make work but it all happened very fast. We didn't really know that it was happening and they kind of just threw it at us a little bit, which is fine because we all love the show. We were trying to figure it out."
Seems like O'Brien felt the TV series ended in a good place for his character and just didn't want to open that door again – totally understandable, given how easy it is sometime to ruin a character with less-than-perfect script, especially if you're working on the continuation of something that ended a long time ago.
"Ultimately, I just decided it was left in a really good place for me and I still want to leave it there. I wish them well and I'm going to watch it the first night it comes out. I hope it kicks ass, but I'm not going to be in it."
So, there you have it: the real reason behind Stiles not being in the movie is Dylan's reluctance to revisit that character after all these years.
Fans of the show have been reacting to the news with mixed emotions. Some are saddened that Stiles won't be a part of the movie, while others understand O'Brien's decision to follow his gut.
"I'm really disappointed that Stiles won't be in the movie, but I respect Dylan's decision to do what's best for him," said one fan. Another fan stated, "I'm excited to see the movie, but it won't be the same without Stiles. I hope they at least mention him instead of writing him off."
The only other Teen Wolf star fans won't see in the movie is Arden Cho, who chose not to come back after a salary scandal.
