The Only Way Marvel Could Save Secret Invasion’s Horrendous AI Intro
The chances are slim, but they’re there.
When a new MCU project premieres, you can be sure the Internet will be buzzing with discussion for a week. What you might not expect is for fans to focus so much on something that has nothing to do with the content of the movie or show: the intro.
In the case of Secret Invasion, the controversy over the intro completely overshadowed the show itself. Which is a shame, but something that can be fixed in the future.
Though the first episode of Secret Invasion was filled with truly mind-blowing twists and events, not many viewers were able to really focus on it after seeing a strangely disturbing intro for the show.
Marvel Studios, on the other hand, proudly announced the reason for the unnatural feel of the animation: it was created by AI and did not cost a dime for the artists' work.
It is weird enough when a studio with a multi-million dollar budget brags about getting some free deals instead of working with real artists, but the use of AI, which is still considered morally gray, just adds another layer of ick to it.
Many people have been quick to express their disappointment that the MCU has jumped on the bandwagon of AI-produced content that feeds off the fair work of some artists, and so the backlash has begun.
Right now, it may seem like something irreversible, since the intro has already been used and the episode has already been released, but Marvel fans willing to give the studio a chance to redeem itself have already found a way to turn it all around:
“I know it probably won’t happen but the thing that would redeem this for me is if with each episode the opening credits become more real until it’s done fully by humans to match the truth in the show being revealed,” Redditor Username41968 said in a thread discussing the intro.
While it would not magically erase the AI-generated mess of a design that the initial intro was from viewers' memories, it could be accepted as an apology and a way to make things right.
Also, the unsettling art, slowly becoming more realistic, would fit perfectly with the vibe of the series.
In reality, though, fans are more likely to believe that Secret Invasion just won't use the intro anymore. Hiding and forgetting their mistakes rather than admitting them out loud seems more in keeping with the Marvel Studios style.
