The Only Two People Responsible for Sheldon's Horrible Personality in TBBT
It's obvious from the title who Young Sheldon's main character is, and everyone around him makes it abundantly clear.
Mary and George Cooper are not without flaws, but they are generally portrayed as exemplary parents, but is that even true?
Sure, they love all their kids equally (or so they say), but Sheldon is special, so by their logic he needs (deserves) more attention than Georgie and Missy.
That may sound horrible, but it is what the writers would have us believe. With Missy entering her rebellious phase, Mary and George's focus is now on her, but they really had to do something to keep her from feeling unnoticed way back.
Sheldon gets to go on road trips (unchaperoned!) at 12 or 13 years old, while Missy isn't allowed to shave her legs or go to the beach with her friends. Is that fair? No. Is it a fact? Yes.
Georgie drops out of school, so he is basically kicked out of the house (Mary is against it, but still). Do you think something like this would happen if (God forbid) Sheldon did something like this? Not in a million years.
That is for the emotional side of things, but let's talk material. Remember when Mary and George bought Sheldon a computer? That was his whim (and an expensive one at that) that the family couldn't really afford.
Still, Sheldon always gets what he wants (and there's the answer to how he got so spoiled by the time The Big Bang Theory started).
Missy and Georgie never get anything remotely as valuable from their parents. Playing favorites, Coopers?
Many believe that such tough living conditions have made Georgie and Missy stronger and more well-adjusted as adults because they have actually had to work for things (instead of just having stuff handed to them).
If the show lasted at least a season after George died and Sheldon left for Pasadena, it would be fascinating to see a shift in the dynamics without the title character.
Would Mary finally pay more attention to Missy and/or Georgie? Would she simply focus on her grandkid (a more likely scenario, to be honest)?
Who knows, but the show would certainly be a lot different.
