Even though the spinoff to a spinoff isn't a very popular concept, Law & Order: SVU, which is now so popular that it almost stands alone next to the whole bunch of other Law & Order shows, won't be the first to try it. The CBS sitcom Young Sheldon, for example, despite being a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory, recently announced its own spinoff.

While the plan is a bit confusing, considering the show won't premiere until after Law & Order: SVU, it would have been easier to understand in practice.

So far, there hasn't been any official announcement or even rumors about the show getting a spinoff. As far as the public knows, Special Victims Unit has been renewed for Season 26, and all the main characters, including Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson, will be returning to the cast. While speculating about the future of the show after Hargitay's decision to leave, Redditor New-Possible1575 came up with a brilliant idea for those who still watch the show for the crime mystery and not the interpersonal relationships.

“I could see them potentially continuing SVU as a spin off (idk if that’s the right term) in a different city to keep the premise of a crime show focusing on sex crimes, but essentially starting with a new cast in a new city. It would be a breath of fresh air,” they said.

By keeping the show's focus on sex offenders and the crimes they commit, the show can continue the franchise's most popular premise without relying too much on the characters. The only problem is that audiences may not fall in love with the new leads as quickly as they did with Hargitay's Benson.
