The Only Gilmore Girls Episode So Bad, Fans Rated It Below 7/10
You may as well guess what happened.
Summary:
- Gilmore Girls was one of the most beloved The CW drama series of the 2000s.
- It has generally good ratings on IMDb, with only one episode rated below 7/10.
- Many fans think this episode deserved an even lower rating.
The best way to check how consistently good the show is before you get really invested in it is to check the ratings of all the episodes on IMDb. Of course, reading all the reviews can take up a lot of your time and spoil a few plot twists, but scrolling down a few pages and checking the numbers shouldn't be too hard.
While every opinion about a show is subjective, there are some things that no one can deny. And when the majority of viewers decide that a certain episode is bad, it is likely to be considered bad because of a very specific writing or casting choice.
This is especially true for shows that haven't seen a slow decline over the seasons, like Game of Thrones, for example. If people were happy with everything else but turned away from a particular hour of the show, that means a controversial decision was made, a risk was taken, and it didn't work out the way the writers had hoped.
Gilmore Girls, the show that has only one episode downvoted lower than 7/10, is a perfect example of such a case.
Gilmore Girls’ Worst Episode
The episode that fans on IMDb rated as the worst of the entire season is titled French Twist (S7E7). As many have already guessed, this is the episode where Christopher and Lorelai get married. It's rated 6.4/10 on the site, but judging by the general hatred of Chris in the fandom, the final score could have been even lower.
“Lorelai was in love with Luke. She wanted to marry him and be with him forever. She did not handle the Luke breakup well in running to Christopher and I guess I just would have liked to see more emotional maturity from her,” Redditor rainmorelikeasea said in regards to the episode’s major twist.
Although much of the disappointment in the hatred of this episode came from the twist itself, involving the wedding that no one really wanted to see, there were other things that people addressed in their reviews.
From the clumsy cardboard Parisian set, which at best looked like it was straight out of the '70s, to the unrealistic portrayal of an impromptu wedding, audiences were just as unhappy with the details as they were with the overall arc. Luckily, Lorelai's confusion didn't last long, but fans still find it hard to forgive the writers for the ruined final season.
If you are feeling nostalgic and want to give Gilmore Girls a rewatch, you can stream the show on Netflix.
