Hopefully at least one couple on the show had a great finale after a surprise proposal.

How I Met Your Mother is a show where anything can happen, and that's one of the many reasons why fans love it. The things you expect the characters to do often end up in completely different ways.

There is nothing impossible about the show, and there is always room for something unusual to happen.

So when a guy goes on a date with his girlfriend, he doesn't necessarily expect to break up with her the same night. But for Ted and Robin, episode 22 of season 2 was brutal.

For those who don't remember, everything was fine until the waiter came to their table with a glass of champagne.

But at the end of the glass was an engagement ring. And that totally made Robin freak out and say "No" probably a thousand times.

Turns out it wasn't actually Ted's surprise proposal to Robin, but the guy at the next table who wanted to make a strong commitment to his other half.

And here's where the interesting part begins. As it was discovered, the two lovebirds, who were playing extras at the restaurant, were having a real-life engagement at that very moment!

The proposal wasn't an act, but it was a real surprise. So what ended Ted and Robin's relationship actually took Jana Rugan and Timothy Russo's to another level.

The Daily Mail revealed that Rugan was a huge HIMYM fan, so her boyfriend Russo wrote the showrunners and asked for the opportunity to surprise his girlfriend with an on-set proposal.

Apparently, the minds behind the series were on board, as the duo were brought in as extras and, without Rugan's knowledge, were written into the storyline.

In the epic scene where everyone finds out that the ring does not belong to Ted, the question of whose it is seems like a fair one.

And that is when Russo stepped up, claimed it, and proposed to his girlfriend. At first she thought he was just messing up the scene, but after a few moments she realized it was for real.

So all the crying and all the emotions were real that time.

So it's surely a moment the couple will never forget, especially since they can relive it every time they watch How I Met Your Mother.

Isn't that just aww so romantic?
