Jim Halpert is almost everyone's favorite character on The Office, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's always perfect.

The romantic journey of The Office 's Jim Halpert and Pam Beasley has been a long and tumultuous one, with a few broken hearts along the way.

In season 2, when the Dunder Mifflin team went on a so-called "booze cruise," Pam was still engaged to Roy, and Jim took his then-girlfriend Katy with him, even though he had a crush on Pam.

Later in the episode, when Roy finally suggests that he and Pam set a date for their wedding, Jim looks absolutely devastated. Shortly thereafter, when Katy confronts him about it, he suddenly and coldly suggests that they break up.

That looked cruel, didn't it? Except that the regular version of the episode did not give us the context that was there in the extended cut.

In the deleted scene, Katy forces Jim to stand up and make a toast to Pam and Roy, even though Jim is clearly in pain and has nothing prepared to say. The whole thing is very awkward, and Jim is interrupted and ends up feeling even worse.

Even though Katy had no idea about Jim's crush on Pam, her behavior makes it even more uncomfortable for Jim to be around her. That is why he decided to break up with her in such an abrupt and seemingly cruel way.

Because you know what would have been even more cruel? Continuing to date the girl you never liked while having a crush on your engaged co-worker.

With the added context, Jim dumping Katy on Booze Cruise makes a little more sense, even though it was clearly not Jim's best moment in the entire series.

The Office aired on NBC from 2005 to 2013, ending after nine seasons.
