No matter how large you get, it may never be enough.

Like any other career, acting has many layers and levels. Depending on your personal preference and the ambition that fuels your drive to continue working, you may prefer your local community theater to the big Hollywood production, or you may dream of becoming a movie star who is already known and praised for what you do.

As an audience member, you wouldn't believe the struggles some actors face when their artistic ambitions are not fulfilled. No matter how much money or fame they already have, and how much they're loved by an audience of loyal fans, they may have a completely different idea of success.

And that is when balancing expectations and reality can be especially difficult for those who refuse to give up.

As The Office actor Rainn Wilson revealed on Bill Maher's Club Random podcast, this conflict made him unhappy for several years on an iconic show:

“When I was in The Office, I spent several years really mostly unhappy because it wasn’t enough. I’m on a hit show, Emmy nominated every year, making lots of money… People love it. And I wasn’t enjoying it. I was thinking about, ‘Why am I not a movie star? Why am I not the next Jack Black or the next Will Ferrell?'”

Although the actor didn't give up on the idea of becoming a movie actor and moving up the ladder, he wasn't very successful in his attempts, which may have influenced his attitude.

A generally negative outlook on his career must have been hard to live with while basically stuck in a show that didn't feel like "enough" at the time. However, Wilson was able to work through it and appreciate The Office for the masterpiece that it is.

If you are feeling nostalgic and want to give The Office a re-watch, you can stream the iconic sitcom on Peacock TV.
