But making interesting characters on paper and in live action are two very different things, and it seems that the creative team behind House of the Dragon has failed to bring Daemon Targaryen to the small screens with dignity.

A huge part of the community now really hates Daemon for one reason: because of Matt Smith's huge fandom.
Some people who have followed the British actor's career since his time on Doctor Who are willing to call him a genius for every role he has played, which is very frustrating for some Game of Thrones fans, who judge the series by plot and character development, not by a familiar face.
Smith's performance seems a bit overrated to some, but his character's story is far from over, so the upcoming second season of House of the Dragon may be able to change the way fans think about the Rogue Prince.
