The Moment Schitt's Creek Evolved From Messy Sitcom Into a Great Show
There was a moment when it all changed not just for the Roses, but for viewers as well.
Schitt's Creek has already assumed its place among the iconic sitcoms, but there was a time when it was nothing more than just another comedic take on rich people having to somehow deal with the loss of all their money.
Over the course of the first two seasons, the entire fun was in how this snobbish family navigated themselves in the world they never had to encounter before due to their riches.
It was undoubtedly hilarious, but the show had to evolve — and it did at some point.
This point was in the season 2 finale, as the majority of Schitt's Creek fans agree. When Johnny and Moira met their old friends from the golden times when they were all rich, the other couple almost immediately started to roast Schitt's Creek and people who lived there. And while the Roses never shied away from doing so themselves, something changed when they had this "friends" who never actually reached out to help shading the place where their family found its new home.
Pretty much every Schitt's Creek fan cried when Johnny and Moira stood up for Jocelyn and Roland and defended the entire town of Schitt's Creek, refusing to be a part of the dinner that turned into a roasting session. Instead, they joined their kids at Mutt's place, enjoying a little dance and finally telling David and Alexis that they love them very much.
It's a pretty simple scene, but fans agree that this was what set the tone for the entire series: the family of snobs growing and learning to appreciate the little things, while also realizing what is actually important for them in life.
For a lot of people, season 2 finale marked the moment when they fell in love with the show after watching it just to kill the time earlier. It was after this finale when all characters started to evolve and grow, while not losing the comedic part of the show, which is also incredibly vital for the series.
Schitt's Creek aired on CBC from 2015 to 2020, wrapping after its sixth and final season.
