The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Plotline That Was Never Properly Concluded
Is Midge financially irresponsible?
The protagonist of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Midge, made this show just the right blend of humor and drama with her sharp wit and ambitious pursuits in stand-up comedy. Even though the show has concluded, fans still find debatable subjects while rewatching the show.
A recent Reddit post that resonated with fans’ curiosity discussed a specific plotline in the beloved show that, apparently, was never quite tied up.
In season 4, Sophie Lennon says something about Midge’s debts. It turned out that our protagonist owed money to her grocer, baker, dry cleaner, the electric company, gas and water, and a whopping $200 to Bloomingdale’s.
It made fans wonder, was Midge being a tad irresponsible with her spending and was it ever addressed later? Adjusted for inflation, that’s like owing $2000 in today’s money.
This debt plotline seemed to vanish into thin air, and it is puzzling for some fans. Did Midge’s financial woes miraculously resolve with her new job in season 5? It’s a bit irksome that the show didn’t circle back to this.
We were left wondering if Midge managed to settle her debts and get back on her feet financially.
Another aspect that had us pondering was the contributions of Midge’s parents, Abe and Rose. Abe hands over his paycheck, but what about their pension and social security payments?
And doesn’t Rose earn something from her matchmaking gigs? It seemed like they could have chipped in a bit more, especially since they publicly claimed to be supporting Midge.
This plotline also brought to light some character traits. Midge, Abe, and Rose didn’t exactly come off as the most likable in season 4. Midge’s spending habits and the way her parents handled finances raised some eyebrows.
It was interesting to see Midge juggling and learning, but the resolution to her financial predicament remained unclear.
The fan community has had some interesting takes on this. Some believe that Midge’s gigs and the success of Joel’s club might have helped alleviate the financial strain. Others think that Midge’s character was portrayed as being financially irresponsible, reflecting her struggle with money management.
