The supposedly big climax ended up being quite underwhelming, and now fans fear that things will only get worse.

The Mandalorian Season 3 is officially over, and the finale ended up being rather disappointing.

Unlike the brilliant ending of season two, it failed to provide a satisfying conclusion and did not help the season recover from the ratings slump that happened after episode 6, with an audience score on Rotten Tomatoes that remains at an underwhelming 50%.

But one of the most criminal things is how it handled one of the show's best characters. Beware of heavy spoilers ahead.

Rumors that Bo-Katan, or even Din Djarin, would give up their lives in the final confrontation with the Imperials turned out to be completely false.

Instead, the only major character to meet his end was Moff Gideon.

Portrayed by the one and only Giancarlo Esposito, he has been built up as a major threat since the first season of the series.

Quiet but intimidating, fans tried to figure out his grand master plan, carefully analyzing the bits of information given to them throughout the show's run.

The most logical turn of events was that Gideon was directly involved in the cloning program to resurrect Emperor Palpatine, or perhaps even responsible for creating Snoke.

But the explanation turned out to be much simpler and more boring. Gideon just wanted to create an army of Force-sensitive clones of himself.

And five minutes into this big reveal, they are all destroyed, making three seasons of planning completely pointless.

To add insult to injury, Gideon is later apparently killed in a spaceship explosion.

The great and promising villain, perhaps even a match for Grand Admiral Thrawn, appears in one episode and is shamelessly killed off in the next.

Of course, there is a chance that he will return, since no body was shown. But... why?

His grand plan is over, so he might just be brought back as a vengeful Darth Vader cosplay (we don't think the Beskar armor completely saved him from severe burns), destroying the original smart and calculating persona.

Perhaps one of the clones survived, but the chances of that happening are even slimmer.

Fans are outraged because of the missed opportunities of the supposed grand climax, and wonder where the story will go from here, having eliminated such a major character.

The season has already been heavily criticized for being too disconnected from the main storyline, and considering the fact that the script for season 4 is already finished, it seems that the situation could get even worse.

Unless, of course, the writers learn from their mistakes and make some necessary changes.
