Sometimes we want things to work out so badly that we don't even stop when it's impossible to go on.

Chicago Fire is a show that has it all. The near-death experiences of the crew, the dark and mysterious intrigues that go on, and of course, plenty of romantic storylines that don't always seem to end happily ever after.

One of the most controversial pairings of the show was the one of Matt Casey and Gabby Dawson. The firefighter and paramedic start dating and end up getting married in season five. Their married life continued for two more seasons, but it definitely wasn't a totally happy one.

But before we get into all that tragedy, it's important to mention that the fans actually think that it wasn't right for the writers to make them a couple in the first place. And the way their relationship was forced on them was also not quite right.

"From the 1st episode you knew they were getting together eventually, if that was the plan they never should have had the Hallie character and then to kill her off at the end of season 1 and then rush the Dawsey relationship in season 2 so quickly after her death was just poorly executed," Redditor sullyi said.

What's more, fans also point out that even though Dowsey managed to create a strong bond, they were never really good for each other.

"Casey was looking for a partner to build a foundation, a life with. Dawson was looking for a co-pilot to go on adventures with. To Casey, she was always abandoning him. To Dawson, he was always holding her back. They were never compatible, never going to work, regardless of the fact that Dawson was the most selfish character on that show," Redditor lolfuckno said.

With all that in mind, maybe it's no wonder their traumatic relationship never worked out. And although it's painful to witness, they're really better off without each other.
