Brace yourself for the final year of hiatus.

Like many other TV shows, the release of the final season of The Handmaid's Tale was affected by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. While the renewal was announced in 2022, even before the last season was released on Hulu, fans had to brace themselves for a three-year hiatus that will end in 2025.

The good news is that the universe will continue to expand after the series finale, as a sequel to the dystopian story, The Testaments, is already in the early stages of production by the same team. More good news is that the stars of the series are already promising a finale that won't disappoint.

The Handmaid’s Tale Final Season

Originally based on Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel of the same name, The Handmaid's Tale has already gone far beyond the events depicted in the original source.

Thanks to a brilliant cast and writing that matched Atwood's style, the universe, in which Gilead takes over the U.S. and women face the horrors of losing their reproductive rights and freedoms, hit very close to home and made viewers root even harder for the show's protagonist, June.

Not many shows have been able to keep their viewers engaged for as long as The Handmaid's Tale has, but fans simply aren't ready to give up on the final chapter. Whether Elisabeth Moss' June will finally be happy and free is anyone's guess, but the cast has already come forward to praise the series finale.

Speaking to ScreenRant, O-T Fagbenle, who portrays Luke on the show, mentioned that he had already been exposed to the early script drafts and was very happy with what he saw.

“Is anyone ever in a good place in The Handmaid’s Tale? I can say that it’s gonna be a banger. I mean, I’ve been having early conversations with some of the writers and directors, and I think this might be the best season yet,” the actor said.

Right now, the 6th and final season of The Handmaid's Tale is set to premiere in 2025, but there aren't many more details about its release to the public. So if you're eager to see how the series' finale will turn out, be sure to keep an eye out for more exciting news and updates from Hulu.
