It's time to leave the traumatic bond behind.

Hulu ’s The Handmaid's Tale could be described as many genres, but it’s definitely not a romantic story. And that’s even despite the fact that there actually were a lot of different love lines, and some of them were not even creepy as hell.

Yes, the first of course is the relationship between Nick and June. They truly found love in a hopeless place called Gilead in season 1 and have proven it to each other many times since. But their story is about as complex and twisted as it gets.

Their love begins in a completely non-romantic way. June was sent to Nick by Serena Joy, who was desperate to have a child. So she thought it would be a good idea for Nick to rape June in order to get her the child she desperately wanted.

But miracles do happen, and the two unfortunate lovebirds actually find peace in each other's arms. And fans actually were truly into the couple, even despite the fact that deep inside they understood that their only bonding is happening because they both are totally traumatized and problematic.

Their on-again, off-again kind of affair just added spice to it. But at some point of the show, the fans started to feel like there’s too much forced Nick’n’June going on.

“They give the relationship the maximum amount of screen time I’m willing to put up with. It’s like wasted time trying to build up my care for their relationship when I really don’t care. Do I want their relationship to fall? Not really, but I don’t really wanna see it constantly,” Redditor 3PartsRum_1PartAir said.

Fans are sure that this storyline should have ended in the season 4 finale when we saw June escape to Canada and reunite with Luke. But somehow the writers just kept pushing more of their romance, but it seems like there was no need for it for a long time now.

“I personally don't care about any romance in this show. It gives me the opposite of romantic feelings. Definitely not keen on June ending up with a guy who was forced to rape her as initial sexual contact. At least not for the end of the series,” Redditor Subject-Violinist311 said.

There's a much bigger story to be told with The Handmaid's Tale than a "star-crossed lovers" narrative, and the show should drop Nick and June's over-the-top romance in favor of more important storylines in season 6.
