Will she ever get a chance to be happy for longer than an episode?

Summary:

  • The Gilded Age is an HBO period drama created by The Downton Abbey ’s Julian Fellowes.
  • Throughout the show’s 2 seasons Ada Brook Forte was never treated right by almost everyone around her. And even when she finally found happiness, it was taken away.
  • Fans demand that to change in season 3, if the show gets renewed.

While there are many people who do not enjoy The Gilded Age because of its slow pace and lack of thrills, Julian Fellowes is not the one to leave the audience without a surprise up his sleeve. Unfortunately, not every single twist is as well received as others. In fact, some of them may be the reason why the fanbase is up in arms.

As the second season of The Gilded Age draws to a close, with only one final episode left before the hiatus, many fans are already too disappointed by what they have seen.

Episode 7 of the second season marks the most unjust event of Ada's newly found husband Luke. And with him, all the hopes of the fandom to see her finally happy, might as well lie. Now, with a heavy heart, the audience can only watch as she makes her way back to the Van Rhijn household.

It is clearer than ever that Ada was never meant to be happy, at least not under Julian Fellowes' watch. This poor woman, kind and sweet to everyone around her, including her obnoxious sister Agnes, was forced to live in loneliness for so long, only to have her happiness stolen from her when it was finally in her hands.

Although there is probably not a single period drama lover who doesn't enjoy a good element of tragedy thrown into the plot, the constant torment of Ada doesn't seem to excite anyone anymore.

The viewers were already angry enough with the way she was treated by her sister, so to take away the only person who loved and respected her just a few episodes after she reached her happiest point is nothing but cruel and annoying. At the very least, Ada deserved at least one episode to enjoy marital bliss without a fight.

But the writers decided otherwise, and now the viewers have to make their peace with it.

The only hope left for fans of The Gilded Age is a change in the dynamic between Ada and Agnes. From the looks of it, this event finally made Agnes feel enough empathy for her sister to show her real support. However, after all the abuse, Ada deserved to distance herself and just live happily ever after.

The Gilded Age season 2 finale will premiere on HBO on Sunday, December 17. Be sure to stay tuned for more news and behind-the-scenes updates on the series' season 3 renewal.
