The Game of Thrones Plot Twist That Would Have Redeemed Everything
Since we can all agree that the finale of Game of Thrones was anticlimactic, we brought you an alternative final plot twist that would’ve made the show way better.
It’s no one’s secret that Game of Thrones ended with a disappointment rather than a proper grand finale, and since the Internet was set ablaze back then, it never cooled off — especially, when it comes to fan forums. People still remain frustrated over the way the grandest TV show of all time was virtually butchered in the end.
Some fans, however, decide to take matters into their own hands: while they can’t exactly fix the already-finished TV series, they can come up with better endings and provide what Game of Thrones’s actual finale lacked — properly compelling and mind-bending plot twists that develop character arcs further.
There are many alternative endings, and quite a few of them revolve around Bran Stark — or, rather, the Three-Eyed Raven. It has always been obvious that Bran was to play a crucial part in the main story… But this one theory revolves around the old speculation that Bran Stark would turn out to be the Night King in addition to the Raven.
This theory first appeared when the actor who played the Night King was changed. Initially, he was portrayed by Richard Brake, but later, the role went to Vladimir Furdik, whose facial features clearly resemble those of Isaac Hempstead Wright — the actor who portrayed Bran Stark. This could’ve been a calculated move.
The theory claims that using his unmatched warging abilities, Bran traveled to the distant past and was unintentionally trapped in the body of the Children of the Forest’s first creation, the Night King. This distant-past Bran, who would be turned into the first White Walker, was in fact the Bran from the future, who tried to prevent the White Walker threat.
In this case, his story would’ve been justified and ironic, as his good intentions would lead to him accidentally embodying the very threat he tried to defeat. At the same time, it would explain Bran’s visions that were related to the Night King, and the latter’s obsession with Bran: the Night King would’ve been the crooked version of him.
The narrative would’ve become incredibly complex on Bran’s side, but it would've added those extra layers of nuance and lore that were severely lacking in the original finale — and on top of that, some major drama if Jon Snow were to learn that in order to save Westeros from the White Walkers, he was to kill his little brother.
