'The Flash' Showrunner Reacts To The Rumors Of Season 9 Being The Last One For The CW Show
The CW recently canceled its three DC series: 'Naomi', 'Batwoman' and 'Legends of Tomorrow', so 'The Flash' fans are understandably worried about the future of their favorite superhero show.
'Arrowverse' is currently experiencing a bit of a crisis: several series have been cancelled, and the ratings of the remaining ones have dropped drastically. Even the previously invincible 'The Flash ' may be in danger of cancellation. The first 'Arrow' spinoff, centering on Barry Allen and his crew, is currently nearing the end of its 8th season, and the 9th is officially confirmed for fall 2022. But could it be the last for the fan-favorite series?
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, series' showrunner Eric Wallace addressed the rumors of impending cancelation, also revealing that the 8th season was previously developed as the show's ultimate finale, before being picked up for another season.
"I hope next year isn't the last season, knock on wood. But I have to now plan, going into season 9… I mean, I have to plan it that way, just in case. I don't want to get caught unawares. I don't want the audience to get caught with a cliffhanger that doesn't get resolved or anything like that… But I will approach [next season] as the final season unless somebody tells me differently — and I hope they do, because there's still many more Flash stories to tell," Wallace said.
Wallace himself doesn't seem very confident that his show will be renewed for one more season, but fans are still holding out hope for a 10th installment of the Allen saga, despite everything suggesting the contrary.
