The Chosen Creator Teases the Holy Week Season to Be a Respite Before Final Tragedy
It can’t always be darkness and gloom.
While there are many great action TV shows about historical events, there weren't many that accurately recounted biblical events. Of course, there is no better source for learning about Jesus than the Bible itself, but in the ever-changing world of content consumption, a show like The Chosen was a long time coming.
Created with care for the original source and showing just how compelling and exciting Jesus' journey really was, The Chosen had a quick rise to success. With four 8-episode seasons available to the public, the show still has much to offer viewers in its final two installments.
Will There Be The Chosen Season 5?
One of the best things about The Chosen is the fact that it is crowdfunded, which means it is not dependent on a studio to make it. As long as the creators have enough money to continue, they intend to finish the story with the crucifixion of Jesus. That means there are two more seasons of the show to look forward to.
Considering how heavy and insightful season 4 was for many viewers, people expect the following seasons to match the level of suspense. However, as series creator Dallas Jenkins reassures viewers in a new interview with Variety, the next 8 episodes will not leave viewers in a constant state of doom.
“This is actually going to be a season that is in some ways kind of cool and kind of fun <...> We just couldn’t have three seasons in a row with nothing but pain and loss and misery. Season 5 is kind of the kick-butt moments before Season 6, where we’re not going to shy away from the misery,” he promised.
Though the fate of Jesus is no longer a mystery to viewers, The Chosen has managed to surprise people with a deeper look and more human portrayal of biblical figures. According to Dallas, both seasons 5 and 6 will delve deeper into Jesus' frustrations with His followers and the events unfolding around Him.
Time-wise, season 5 will cover the events of Holy Week, and season 6 will lead up to the crucifixion of Jesus. Although the creator has confirmed that the crew is in the midst of filming upcoming episodes, the production works differently than any other major studio, so the premiere dates of the series remain unknown.
If you are interested in giving The Chosen a go, the crowdfunded Bible-based TV show is available to watch online on all major streaming platforms.
