The Buccaneers Season 2 Needs to Lose Nan (If It Ever Happens)
There is a lot of potential still.
Summary:
- The Buccaneers is an Apple TV Plus period romance drama based on Edith Wharton's novel of the same name.
- Although there are 4 main female characters, season 1 focused heavily on only one of them.
- If season 2 happens, fans would need the show to move on from Nan's love triangle in order to continue watching.
Ever since the news of The Buccaneers adaptation was dropped, fans of period dramas have been eager to see what Apple TV Plus could come up with. While some thought The Buccaneers was just an attempt by the streamer to grab the attention of all the fans of Netflix 's Bridgerton, others thought it had strong standalone potential.
Unfortunately, it didn't make quite the splash that Bridgerton did, and the majority of its fans didn't like the even more radically modernized approach that The Buccaneers took. However, there were still some curious viewers who fell in love with the story and wanted the show to succeed.
The love triangle between Nan, Theo, and Guy was a perfect catalyst for fandom activity, as it posed a question for endless debate. However, no matter how intriguing the triangle was, it wasn't enough to keep everyone interested through all 8 episodes of the show.
The Buccaneers Main Characters Change
Whether The Buccaneers will return to our screens with season 2 is still questionable. While the show has its fans now, and they're quite active on social media, spreading the word about their favorites, it hasn't been too successful in the critical arena.
On the bright side, Apple TV Plus isn't exactly known for abrupt cancellations, so chances are The Buccaneers will get a second chance to prove viewers and critics wrong. The question is whether they will make the most of it.
So far, the main change that the audience thinks would benefit the show would be to move away from Guy, Nan, and Theo, and have them only appear as much as anyone else in the show. The Buccaneers is an ensemble show with a talented cast and many potential storylines to explore, so letting someone else shine would be the best course of action.
After the controversial first season finale, viewers are most interested in seeing where Lizzie's life can go from here, so that would be a good place to start.
But even then, no one would want the show to be a one-person story when it can go back to its roots and explore the themes of friendship, honesty, and unconditional support more than ever before.
If you're interested in watching The Buccaneers season 2, be sure to keep an eye out for news and updates so you don't miss the Apple TV Plus renewal announcement. And if you haven't had a chance to catch up with the show, all 8 episodes, including the season finale, are available to stream now.
