Is he really the hero we wanted him to be?

Summary:

  • The Buccaneers is Apple TV Plus' romantic period drama based on Edith Wharton's novel of the same name.
  • In the show, one of the characters, Nan, had to choose between two best friends, Theo and Guy.
  • While the majority of fans previously preferred Guy, the season finale changed their perspective.

The Buccaneers was a very controversial show to begin with. Ever since the trailer for the show dropped, fans of period dramas have been voicing their opinions, and they have been all over the map. While some found the show interesting and compared it to Netflix 's hit Bridgerton, others decided to dislike it right away.

While many viewers who decided to give it a try quickly dropped the show, those who stuck with it were soon disappointed.

The promising storyline with a classic love triangle was so poorly executed that it lost all appeal. The conflict became drawn out and boring, and more importantly, every single character involved became completely unlikable. Even Guy, who was supposed to be the hero of the season, is now too far gone to save.

Did Nan Choose Guy In The Buccaneers Finale?

In the season finale, Nan finally has to decide the shape and direction of her life. She makes the wise decision to move forward with her marriage to Theo, which will secure her and her family's future.

Given the fact that The Buccaneers was never intended to be a limited series, and there is a chance that the show will be renewed for season 2, this was the decision she had to make to keep the door open for future development. So it was pretty predictable. What wasn't predictable was the way she and Guy got together the day before their wedding.

The scene of intimacy, which was supposed to be intimate and scandalous, made the audience completely change their opinion of Guy. By giving in to his instincts, he agreed to hurt two people, Theo and Jinny, just to satisfy himself.

Considering that he was the one who initially did not propose because of Nan's history, while Theo kept giving her the choice not to proceed, his selfishness now seems too excessive to support in any way. He may not be the villain of the story, but he's certainly not the hero he was made out to be.

The fear now is where the writers will go with season 2. After a finale like that, fewer viewers are interested in watching Nan and Guy's affair blossom because it's too hard to support. Besides, the only way to end it would be to kill off the only legitimate victim of this triangle, Theo, which would be just plain cruel.

But if you're still interested in where the show might go, be sure to keep an eye out for any renewal announcements from Apple TV Plus.
