Things don’t seem so exciting for the show’s future, yet it’s still a good sign.

Prime Video ’s superhero series The Boys has been all over the social media in recent days as the show is getting big updates that not many fans may get thrilled about.

Apart from the good news regarding The Boys’ upcoming season 4 that lands on the streaming in a couple of days, there’s also not so good news announced by the show’s creator Eric Kripke who seems to have finally made up his mind about the fifth season being the last for the entire series.

The Boys’ cancellation after 5 seasons may not come as a surprise to those who have been keeping up with Kripke’s recent revelations, and the seemingly disheartening announcement is actually the best thing that could happen to The Boys.

Launched back in 2019, the satire black comedy series just stunned everyone garnering raving reviews from both critics and viewers. The Boys’ first season landed impressive scores of 85% and 90% from professionals and the audience, but the following installments made the show’s overall success even bigger.

The second season got more critical acclaim securing 97% and 83% respectively while season 3 continued the trend receiving 98% from critics and only 75% from viewers. The upcoming season 4 so far isn’t available for the audience to check out, yet it already got a disheartening rating of 81% from professionals which comes as a record low compared to earlier installments.

With critics’ unanimous claim that The Boys is just getting repetitive, Kripke’s decision to wrap the whole story up after the fifth season doesn’t look that bad at all.

Quite the contrary, The Boys now has all the chances to get a decent ending that would conclude the arc in a right way (something that so many series could never afford) and thus remain a high-rated show that didn’t need to run for 10+ seasons coming up with more and more storylines and plot twists out of thin air, just like Kripke’s other signature series, horror mystery drama show Supernatural, did back in the day.

The Boys season 4 kicks it off on June 13 on Prime Video.
