The fans can't wait for the next season of The Boys. Despite the incredible amount of support that the show has received, the original comic books are considered mediocre, to say the least.

Summary:

  • The Boys has released a promotional video featuring Victoria Neuman, who will be running for Vice President.
  • Fans have criticized the work of Garth Ennis, known for creating compelling worlds with deep lore, for being edgy and presenting flawed characters.
  • They believe that the show relies more on satirical elements and has a better edge without the misogynistic, homophobic, and racist depictions found in the comics.

The Boys' official X account has released a new promotional video that has fans raving about the show's fourth season. The video is an in-universe campaign by Victoria Neuman, who will be running for vice president.

In this campaign, Victoria stated that she and her secretary of defense, Robert Singer, have been on the trail “bridging the divide between the human and superhuman communities.”

While most fans can't wait for the new season, others turned to the original comic books to refresh their memories. And they realized that the work of Garth Ennis is, in fact, terrible in comparison to the show.

Is The Boys Comics Bad?

No one argues that Garth Ennis is by far the best “concept” guy out there. Fans believe that he is able to create magnificent worlds with interesting and deep lore. However, they all agree that the author often wastes these ideas by leaning into being edgy for the sake of it.

As far as The Boys go, in the books, teen supes are portrayed as drug and sex addicts. All they care about is getting their next high. And Homelander is really weird and rapey.

“The show features flawed, but redeemable, characters. The comics has a bunch of perverts with powers,” Redditor JessicaDAndy says.

The show leans more heavily on the satirical elements and develops the story in a way that the comics did not, which makes it better. It still has an edge, but without the misogynistic, homophobic, and downright racist depictions that permeated the comics.

Fans believe that it’s better for Ennis to write about something grounded and mundane, where the character is someone quite ordinary. That’s when he truly shows all his talent.

The Boys is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
