It’s always good to have a plan B.

If you're an actor trying to break into the industry, there's a pretty good chance that you'll be stuck without work for a few years before you get at least some work. You have to be prepared to go through audition after audition and end up with numerous rejections before you get even the smallest part.

But the biggest disappointment of all is when you don't get any recognition at all. Sometimes the idea of becoming an actor has to be dropped, and although this possibility is heartbreaking, it is something that every aspiring artist has to be prepared for. This is when Plan B can come in handy.

While some actors don't go public with what they would do if acting didn't work out for them, others are pretty open about it. The Bold and the Beautiful star Matthew Atkinson, for example, had a hobby that almost became a career. The actor opened up about his own backup plan in a special feature on Soap Opera Digest.

His pre-acting interest may prove to be the most unexpected option of all, even for his co-stars:

“I think very few people in the cast know that I was a skateboarder. That was the intention of my life for a period of time. I wanted to just be a professional skateboarder and I skated for years and did little competitions and wanted to take it professionally,” the actor shared.

Of course, it's highly unlikely that Atkinson would pursue his skateboarding passion today, but the thought of it must be pretty fulfilling. Besides, there is no chance that The Bold and the Beautiful viewers would let go of their favorite Thomas Forrester so easily.

Joining the cast after Pierson Fodé, Atkinson had to impress the audience enough to keep the role, and he did just that. No matter how good of a skater he was, any fan of The Bold and the Beautiful would agree that they'd rather see him conquering another movie set than a skate park.

If you want to see Matthew Atkinson in a less physical, but still pretty challenging way on The Bold and the Beautiful, tune in to new episodes Monday through Friday on CBS.
