The Biggest Mistake Outer Banks Writers Made in Season 2
The Netflix hit crime drama returned for a second season last year, but some fans found it a rather weak outing compared to the first season.
The original season follows a group of teens in the remote community of Outer Banks who stumble upon a treasure map and get into all sorts of trouble as they go searching for it. It was a minor hit in 2020, prompting Netflix to quickly renew it for a second season.
There were some important changes introduced in the second season in terms of character development, though, which some fans didn't like.
All the main characters on the show are high school students, so nobody expects them to behave like adults. But, as some fans point out, the second season saw the writers take the characters' irrationality to the extreme.
They sometimes act outright insane: in one scene they yell at an armed robber, in another they drive a car while completely wasted and they're constantly making idiotic comments. Sure, they're just kids, even kids can't be that dumb and irrational all of the time.
Some people point out that you can't expect a bunch of highschoolers to behave rationally after they've found 500 million dollars' worth of gold and seen a man killed in front of them. And then again, we probably all did stupid and dangerous things when we were 17, didn't we?
Outer Banks characters find themselves smack in the middle of an ancient conspiracy with some seriously dangerous people trying to track them down, so some dumb moves are inevitable.
So, the argument goes that it's only natural that the characters in the series are being emotional and impulsive. After all, they're not professional treasure hunters, they're just a bunch of kids.
Netflix will be dropping Outer Banks Season 3 on 23 February 2023.
